I bought my ’73 MGB from Paul Naylor Motors in August of 1973, brand new of course. It has been a very reliable car at 65K miles and is completely original. It still has original points, condenser, fuel pump, paint, and top. My son Matt is the owner of a ’74 GT and he wrote a poem about my ’73 MGB.

Harvest Gold original paint

The Roadster that sits and quietly waits

Clean, classic lines

Compliment this treasure to find

Bumpers gleaming chrome

Whether on the road or at home

Rostyle black and silver wheels

Round highlights, a face revealed

British Leylend emblem emblazoned on each side

Chrome gas cap, its place on the backside

Chrome door handles smoothly crafted

On the rear deck, a chrome luggage rack

Shined black convertable top without tear or rip

Doors that shut with a solid craftsmanship

Under the hood, a tractor engine of sorts

One with extra low pulling torque

Points and condenser still spark the distribution

Fed along with dual SU carburetion

The fuel pump ticking

Signals it’s ready

Pull the choke out, turn the key, ignition!

The tune of the exhaust note, sweet low vibration

With the windows rolled down

And the vent screens pushed out

Go-kart steering

With a robust heavy feeling

Seeing the world thru a crystal clear windscreen

Rolling along at 3,000 rpm

Heel toe shifting

Motoring about so free and refreshing

Many a trip’s been planned and made

At one time, across and back the great United States
